Talk to your friends, neighbors, and co-workers. You'll find that they either play in the APA or know someone who does. It'll surprise you! Clerks, secretaries, janitors, lawyers, chiropractors, doctors, waitresses, truck drivers, bank tellers, and even school teachers ... all play pool in the APA Pool League. Over one fourth of APA members are female.
The APA is the World's Largest Amateur Pool League with more members than all other amateur leagues combined. Nationally, the APA currently has over 250,000 members (and growing). Locally, there are over 750 active players. In a normal week, between 175 and 200 teams are playing APA pool. We offer leagues 5 nights a week in most areas of the City. 75% of APA members are beginner to intermediate players, meaning you don't have to be a Pool Pro to play. With the APA's Equalizer® System everyone has an equal chance of winning.

Here is my direct email address and phone number for anyone with questions...
New or returning players...There are a few openings for teams if you are still interested in this session. I also have a number of good teams looking for an extra player of two. I have requests for all skill levels, so if you would like to play, send me an email with your phone number, preferred day of play, and the general are of the city that is most convenient for you.
Last week for Monday teams...please make sure your folders are in early this week. I will pickup Monday folders on Wednesday to set up playoffs. Final standings will be on the website. They will be listed on your normal Schedules where EVERYONE should be able to see them. First team listed is home team as usual. If there is an issue with the bar you are scheduled to play at, you have to protest the location before Sunday at 7:00pm.
Monday teams: There should be no outstanding makeups for Monday teams. There were some missing makeup points added last week. That means some teams moved further in the standings than one week of play could have moved them. If you have questions about why a team has moved, please check the website. If that still doesn't answer the question, call me. Bar League Makeups: Last two weeks for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday...For Tuesday-Thursday bar league teams...There are still a few makeups that have not been turned in yet. I will allow them to come in late this session, but they should all be on the books by the start of the last week of the session. That way, everyone knows where everyone else stands. I will clarify the rules re makeups for next session going forward, but at this point, I will deal with outstanding makeups this session on a case by case basis.
Eligible players: Any player must play at least 4 times on your spring roster to be eligible to play in the playoffs this session. Additionally, any player competing in the Citywide tournament must have 10 career plays including 4 with the team this session in the format that they are competing.
For Pool Hall teams...All makeups should be finished this week. If they are not done by Saturday when I pick up the folders, they will become forfeits for the team that was originally on site the week of play. There can be NO makeups given this week or next. Teams short on players must forfeit that point this week. Please try to have full rosters for the last two weeks of play. Team Forfeits: ANY teams forfeiting full team matches, (5-0 no shows...) will not be eligible for the playoffs, or for any Vegas drawings (Team or individual). Please show up the last two weeks no matter where you are in the standings. Forfeits just skew the standings. Teams with past due balances are also not eligible for playoffs or any Vegas drawings. Registration time: Please check the registration label on the front of your envelope so I know if you are playing next session, or taking the summer off.
New Teams: If your team is not playing next session, but you still want to shoot, you can form your own team, or join someone else's. I always have spots open at the beginning of every session. If you are starting a new team, please send a roster with the names you have now. You can always add and subtract names after the session has started. Quickest road to Vegas: Remember summer session gives you the easiest road to Vegas. There is no Challenge tournament. If you win your division, you are qualified for the Citywide tournament in June of 2009. One step away from Vegas.
DATES TO REMEMBER:
Summer session starts June 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 8th.
Challenge of Champions (Bar League teams) May 31st at Q-Billiards in Darien.
9-Ball Citywide tournament June 1st at Q Billiards in Darien.
Bar League Citywide touranament is on June7th and 8th at Q-Billiards in Darien. City Pool Hall Citywide tournament is on June 14th and 15th at City Pool Hall

Thank you for the first five years!
It has been five years since I took over the North Chicago Region of the APA from Rob and Mary Guzzo. (Howard to 290, and Harlem to the Lake.) To those of you who have been here from the beginning, thank you for sticking with the new guy. To those of you who have been part of the growth in the past 5 years, thank you for helping the league grow.
Five years ago we started with 92 teams, and currently have almost 190. In the beginning, we didn’t play 9-ball. Now we have 20 teams. In our first year, we sent 18 players to Vegas. In the summer of 2007, we sent 65 players to have fun in the sun…or the pool room, their choice. Four 8-ball teams, and one 9-ball team won spots in the National Team Championships, and a chance at the $25,000 grand prize. (Airfare as well as lodging during the tournament are all part of the “prize package”.)
With the idea that putting more people in Vegas is a good thing for everyone, I send two additional teams that join the “winners” in Vegas during the NTCs…just for playing in the league. Players are also entered into a drawing for trips to Vegas everytime they win a patch or pin for various achievements (8 on the break, break and run, and rackless nights...) Three players went in 2007. Our MVP tournament has no trophies, but the winner goes to Vegas each year. With all the trips totaled up, I believe that we send more players to Vegas per active player than any other APA league in the nation, and we are on the verge of sending an additional 8-ball team to the NTC. (The number of teams we are allowed to send to play in the NTC is based on the number of teams we have playing in our Spring session. Right now, we are about 20 teams short of sending another team to Vegas…we have been growing at about 10% per year, so the 20 team goal is not out of reach. The fifth team will make for an interesting Citywide, but I'm more than happy to figure out how to award an odd number of first place prizes...)
The picture going forward…I just re-upped for another ten years, so I hope that you like what you have been getting, because you are going to continue to get it for the long haul. Having said that, I’d like to open this up to suggestions. How can I make the league better for you? What programs, tournaments, activities, etc. would you like to see as part of your APA league? What new/improved services would you like to see? What would you like to see changed? I’m going to add a poll to the end of this post. Please pick one suggestion that you feel is the most important, but please don’t feel limited to those responses. If you have another one, or would like to expand on the one you have chosen, please add your comments at the bottom of this poll.
Thanks again for being part of the Chicago APA community.
