Welcome to the Chicago APA

Talk to your friends, neighbors, and co-workers. You'll find that they either play in the APA or know someone who does. It'll surprise you! Clerks, secretaries, janitors, lawyers, chiropractors, doctors, waitresses, truck drivers, bank tellers, and even school teachers ... all play pool in the APA Pool League. Over one fourth of APA members are female.

The APA is the World's Largest Amateur Pool League with more members than all other amateur leagues combined. Nationally, the APA currently has over 250,000 members (and growing). Locally, there are over 1500 active players. In a normal week, over 220 teams are playing APA pool. We offer leagues 5 nights a week in most areas of the City and suburbs.

75% of APA members are beginner to intermediate players.  That means you don't have to be a Pool Pro to play. With the APA's Equalizer® System everyone can play, and anyone can win.

APA Breaking News
Week of 3-8-10

03/13/2010 09:45:02 AM

The MVP/Top Gun Tourney will be held this Saturday 3-13...and next 3-20 for those who can't make it this weekend. One winner from each date will go to Vegas from these tournaments.

This Saturday's Tourney will be held at Lee St. Billiards, located at 1122 Lee St. in Des Plaines. Doors open at 10, and play will start at 11. All trophies from the summer and fall winners will be on site...please come pick yours up.

Next Saturday's tourney will be held at Idol's sports bar. They are located at Rand and Dundee in Palatine. Doors open at 10, and play will start at 11. I will also bring all remaining trophies to this tournament.

There is a $10 buy in for each tourney, and you can only play in both if you have won MVP/Top Gun honors in both sessions this year. No one can win more than one MVP "trip" per year.

Weekly stuff...There are still a lot of unpaid memberships on the books. I have to get them resolved one way or another, or the APA in St. Louis will charge me $25 PLUS a $5 audit fee. For that reason, I've deleted some players on some teams who were not paid. If you get your sheets, and are missing players, don't worry. You can still re-add them...IF THEY PAY. Otherwise, leave them off the sheet until paid.

Patches and Pins...If you earn an individual award (Patch or pin), you need to write your name on the back flap of the cash envelope and pay for it. If you do both, you get the patch or pin, AND are entered in a drawing at the end of the year for trips to Vegas. ALL money from the patch and pin fund goes toward these trips. Last year, we collected almost $4000 in patch and pin money...8 players won trips to Vegas. But it is important for you to write your name legibly on the back flap for EACH award you win. If you run out of space, I'll give you a new envelope. That goes for CLEAN SWEEP patches as well. If you just write down 5 clean sweep patches on one line...you only get one chance in the drawing, and would have to decide who gets the trip if that ticket won. Pleas put ALL 5 NAMES on the envelope.

 Featured Poll
 Question:  (Only Members can vote)
Are you ready for some action?

The Illinois APA League Operators are putting together a State Tournament for this year and we need your input to determine the amount of interest in the project.

Where: Springfield
When: November 2009 Matches would run Friday thru Sunday
Format: Standard Team format - race to handicap
(You choose the players for your team...just stay under 23)
Cost: $400 per team - rooms NOT included

There will be handicapped mini tournaments as well.

Those are the general details...I will update as I get more specific information. The window is short on this event, so I need to know the real level of interest in this type of tournament at this time.

Being a first time event, we are open to change...Please post replies with any suggestions that would make the tournament more appealing for you.
